6 Tips for Women to start the New Year Out the Happy Way!

The New Year is approaching fast and fierce. In order for you to feel happy, you have to move and grow. Simply put, you have to take your life to a new level.
Example: Are you a good mom? Then what can you do to become a better mom. Are you a great dancer? Then what extra moves could you learn to become even greater? Are you doing really well in your career? Then what can you do to implement new business decisions or ideas to further your career?

Okay I think you get the picture. Whatever you think you are good at, or maybe not so good at, what exactly can you do to make it better?

What are you passionate about? What are your dreams and goals? Ladies, what do you want out of life? Be clear, specific, and write them down.

Here are 6 MUSTS to start out the New Year correct

1. Simply decide to be happy. To be happy is YOUR choice.

2. Be true to who you are. Be happy with who you are.

3. Be comfortable and creative in your own skin. Literally!

4. Remember and acknowledge strong and inspiring moments in your life and embrace them. These moments will help you create new moments in your life.

5. You have to take steps toward your goals. Every single step you take toward your goals will give you feedback on your direction. Whatever you do, keep moving. Movement is life. Movement is an element of happiness.

6. Remember: You are beautiful. Your worth as a woman is priceless. It’s the truth!

Have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year. Embrace life, embrace your beauty, love others, give, show gratitude, and love yourself. Celebrate all the magnificent things and people who are a part of your life.

Congressional Black Caucus 2010 - Author Tinisha Nicole Johnson

I went to the Black Congressional Caucus in Washington DC in September 2010. It was a fantastic experience. I truly enjoyed it. I was invited along with my publisher of Xpress Yourself Publishing Jessica Tiles. It was my first trip to Washington DC. I mean I was pretty impressed with Washington DC in general. There are a lot of movers and shakers there. I got to network and meet other professional people.

Feel free to check out the photos of my trip on my Facebook page. A high school friend of mine lives there, so I was blessed to stay with her and also tour a bit of DC. I’ve been busy thus far this year I must say with a lot of different writing projects, including working on a screenplay. WGN-TV Interview - Midday News

Today has got to be the most exciting time of my writing career. As I sit and type this blog, I am in Chicago, Illinois. I was interviewed this morning at the WGN-TV studio by Steve Sanders who is a veteran broadcast journalist.

I talked about my most recent book, Lessons Learned: Loving Yourself as a Black Woman. I am so passionate about this book and felt so honored to have talked and spread the word about it. Although the book is catered towards women of color, certain subject matter is suitable for any woman wanting to improve qualities of her life.

Chicago is the number three market, right behind New York, and Los Angeles. The interview only lasted about 5 minutes. The time went by so quick. The night before, I was a nervous wreck, wondering if I’d answer the questions correctly. After the interview was over, there was so many things that went through my mind – Did I look stupid? Was my hair sticking up? Did I sound like I knew what I was talking about? It's so funny when I think about it now. LOL

I have family in Chicago, and my cousin came down to the studio with me. And she took pictures. She said I did great, so I felt comforted.

Well, that’s my quick blog for the day. I have a virtual book tour for the whole month of April. Come back, and check out where I’ll be online.

Thank you for the time it took to read this. I appreciate my fans so much.

5 Secrets for Dating in The New Year

A New Year and a New You. Dating is as old as molasses; however, there are new ideas and perceptions when it comes to dating in this hi-tech day and age. Many are single or are recently getting out relationships and marriages. If you are just joining the dating scene as a woman, there are some important things to consider before you go on that first date.

1. Love Yourself First
If you are depressed or have low self-esteem, you need to deal with that immediately before you even think about entering the dating scene. Do not think that dating someone and searching for love is going to cure your low self-esteem or depression. It will not. In fact, getting involved with someone while you’re low on self-love may very well make you feel worse.

Don’t be so desperate to jump into a relationship, because when we are low on self-love, we sometimes have too many expectations of another, and we rely on someone else, like a man to make us feel loved. Men can sometimes notice these types of women. They are usually the ones who will go all out of their way to please a man’s every need, and will sleep with a man too quickly.

These men may very well take advantage of you, or say things that sound wonderful, but actually, they don’t really mean a word of it. It boils down to a man’s actions that will bring his true colors out. Always love yourself first. That is Rule #1. Loving yourself first is a beautiful quality that any real man will appreciate. Live Your Best Life!

A Tell All Book That Has Black Women Living A More Passionate and Fulfilling Life

Xpress Yourself Publishing announces the release of
Lessons Learned: Loving Yourself As A Black Woman by Denver, Colorado author Tinisha Nicole Johnson.

Statistics for black women range from status in careers, single parenting, and negative relationships with black men, to name a few. They are the minority of the minority and are put into a stand-alone category, facing challenges that other races of women may never face.
Lessons Learned: Loving Yourself As A Black Woman is a revolutionary book into the culture of Black women, revealing how to live a more passionate and fulfilling life, as well as addressing key issues such as self-worth, the definition of true happiness, and the five most common types of Black women.

Tanya White, empowerment speaker, life enhancement strategist, relationship coach, and author of Girl, You Can Win! says, “Lessons Learned serves as the medicine that heals the women stuck in their past failures, the motivation that encourages women to overcome their present fears and the inspiration women need to position themselves for a productive future.”

Tinisha is taking a stand by introducing to Black women a new way of thinking that has people talking and women everywhere viewing life in a different light.

Tinisha will appear at the All-Star Author Showcase hosted by The Black Academy of Arts and Letters being held on Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT, at the Dallas Convention Center Theater Complex, 650 South Griffin Street, Dallas, Texas 75202.

On Monday, February 22, 2010, Tinisha will speak at Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary, North Carolina 27512, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST.

We're Nominated, Please Vote!

Last year, my publishing company, Xpress Yourself Publishing, was nominated for and won the 2008 African American Literary Award for Independent Publisher of the Year and we've been nominated AGAIN this year. I have to admit, we REALLY want to win again this year! I, along with my talented authors, have worked very hard this year. Currently, we have over 60 titles in print and an author roster of 30 that is rapidly growing.

Just like last year, in order to win, we are asking you to cast your vote for Xpress Yourself Publishing and its authors. Last year, the turnout to vote for us was phenomenal, and we would like to have the same turnout. Could you please, if it's not too much to ask, forward to your friends and family and ask them to vote for us too?

PLEASE go to http://www.literaryawardshow.com/voting.html and cast your vote for the following:

Seven Tips for Black Women to Live a Happier Life

In this day and age when the world is changing, technology is advancing, and years have passed by in a blink of an eye, Black women may wonder about the future and how it will directly impact them. Today’s Black women are beginning to realize that change in the world, and they want a positive piece of it. From the test of time, many women are learning what it takes to be successful and get ahead.

Living in a world where you are constantly reminded that you are the minority of the minority, sooner or later you start to catch on and grab that piece of success. That success can involve anything from earning a living to raising a family. However, along the way you may begin to doubt yourself, you may even wonder about your self-worth, and at the end of the day, you want reassurance just to stay in the game.

Tip #1:
When your mind is stuck in the past, you are in fact a prisoner of your past, resisting the key to free yourself into a new direction for your future.

The past is gone. Sometimes you have to let it go. Black women love very hard. They feel as though they have to. It is their core source of strength. It is also a quality they fully accept from others. Whatever has happened in your life, you have to embrace the good and let go of the negativity, but always look ahead as optimistic as you can.

Tip #2:
Whatever your constant focus is on, is what will move you closer to happiness or deeper into dissatisfaction.

Focus on your strengths and refuse to accept being Black and a woman as a weakness. Train your mind to believe you are self-confident and capable, and soon your actions will follow pursuit.

Tip #3:
When you start to understand and believe the depth of your worth, then NO ONE can fool you into thinking what your worth is as a Black woman.
The media has a funny way of interjecting what is beauty and what is not; what is popular and what is thrown out. Don’t believe the hype! There are some who seem to have it all on the outside, but are hurting badly inside. Realize that your inner happiness means more than any outer material possession or physical trait. Love you, and the world has no choice but to acknowledge it and accept it.

Tip #4:
If something isn’t working then change your approach. Knowledge is everything. Along with knowledge and persistence, you will make better choices.

Believe it or not, you might be surprised that you don’t know yourself as well as you might think. Live life, get a life, experience something new, and be open to change in your life.

Tip #5:
Life just isn’t long enough to settle. The strength to change your situation is already inside you, you just have to realize and find it.

Black women settle far more than they have to. They may want a change, but their actions tell a different story.

Realize you don’t have to settle. In some cases, it’s just demeaning to your self-worth. Recognize your strengths, work on improving your weaknesses, and always recognize the love that lives in the core of your soul.

Tip #6:
When you think others are holding you back, it’s your own way of thinking that’s holding many Black women back.

Many people resort to excuses – constant excuses. If you want something, go after it. Don’t allow insecurities or excuses to get in the way for too long, and stop your journey through life. More so, don’t for one second think you can’t accomplish your goals because of another human being.

Tip #7:
The quality of the relationship you have with yourself determines how many fears you have, and more importantly how you handle your fears.

You may have never thought of what type of relationship you have with yourself, but you should. You are going to be with yourself for the rest of your life. You might as well get to know yourself as much as you can. Always look for ways to enhance your growth – whether that growth is spiritual, emotional, relating to your career, family or health.

This Day Never Forgotten

Who won’t remember this day in history, especially if you reside in the United States? Who won’t be moved with emotions regardless of who you are, regardless of what you’re religion is?

When you offer a new kind of hope to people, they begin to believe. When you offer a new kind of change to people who are suffering, they begin to believe. When a better life for you and your family is offered, you begin to believe. When solutions and a sense of sincerity is brought to the forefront, you start to believe. When Obama got elected for President of the United States, that change took place, and when Obama got sworn in on January 20, 2009 at noon, that hope and abundance of change grew alive and grew strong.

More than ever people believe that anything is possible. People believe just maybe their hopes and dreams can come true; that just maybe they can have a better life despite what struggles lay on the surface of their life.

God is good and He will always come to our rescue, not when we want Him to, but when He think it is necessary. The change has only just begun.

May God bless Obama, Biden and their families. May God bless us all and show us the way to the change we need. And may we never forget where we came from and where we are going. Obama has taught and showed us there is nothing wrong with dreaming big, because it just may come true if you believe and follow through.

Be grateful, stay humble, and become involved in the change! Inauguration 2009

When all things are said and done…

When all is said and done, you have memories

When one is laid down to rest, there is a hefty sadness floating in the aura of your surroundings

And for a moment, you may not even know who you are
But there is also a happy smile to share, because you remember how great this person was and still is

There is nothing but a sincere care

When all is said and done, you can’t remember who won, you can’t remember your problems for a moment, you just remember who you love, and who loved you.
You remember that God is near, so there’s a fear, but only if you don’t know Him and never even cared to try.

The big things become the small things and your priority list you never made is rearranged and no longer estranged into your mind

You see your family and your friends in a new shade of light. And that shade of light gives others a sense of your hearts needs and wants, and leads you to the bottom of your soul. And so many things you will find, that you never knew were there. But of course, you never even looked.

I encourage you BEFORE all things are said and done to take a moment to realize what is truly important

To realize God’s love, to realize your family and friends, to realize even when someone has hurt you, they are hurt themselves.

To realize the most precious gifts are right before your eyes, if only you allow yourself to be aware, before all things are said and done

Whats Going on This Weekend?

As many of you know I reside in Denver, Colorado. I tried to go to Elitches this weekend with my family, which is a theme park in downtown, and that surely was a mistake. It was so crowded because of the Democratic National Convention.

After I learned they rented out half the parking for the Democratic Convention, and we would have to walk a long way just to enter, we just turned around and went back home, ate the food we’d fixed for lunch and sat back and watched a movie.

The Democratic National Convention is the thing that everyone is talking about right now. It’s the biggest thing going on in Colorado and around the world for the weekend of August 25th.

Michelle Obama’s speech was very much anticipated by all. After I quickly put the kids to bed, I was all eyes and ears in front of the TV. I think everyone wanted to know what she was going to say. Well, I must say there was no disappointment for me. Michelle Obama is so sincere and passionate. She is dedicated to her husband Barack and very much so to her beautiful two girls. She spoke from the heart and it was evident.

She’s very impressive. I really enjoyed how she spoke of her husband, how they fell in love, how she wasn’t sure about him at first, and so on. It appears they have a love so strong. And after nineteen years of marriage she still stands by his side. I really believe they both look up to each other. There’s such a sincerity about them both that I like so much.
